From Father to Son – the story of skills passed down through generations
In 1957, my Father began his 50-year career working in the painting and decorating industry.
He completed a six years painting and decorating apprenticeship with S.Watt-Smith & Sons in Sheffield, England. They were an old-fashioned firm and were still making their own primer undercoats and finishing coats in the 1960’s. After my father completed his apprenticeship in 1962. He continued working for the same company for the next decade.
In 1972, he was given the opportunity to come to Australia with his family and start his own painting firm (E.P & S. Clayson painters and decorators). Thus, paving way for another 40 years in the industry, before retirement.
Being mentored from a young age by my Father. I believe it gave me a leg up in skill development within the painting industry and has contributed to higher productivity.
I completed my four year apprenticeship in 1984 and have acquired 37 years of experience so far.
